We’ve reached another milestone in our growth: the Pano Hora Ensemble has filed for 501(c)(3) non-profit status. This designation will greatly expand our eligibility for funding from a wide range of contributors—an especially timely development as we prepare for our March 2026 performances at Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center in New York City (see this blog entry for more details). These concerts will be our most ambitious yet, with significantly higher production costs than our past ventures.
The program will feature two world premieres; Gethsemane and Laïko, performed with full orchestra, vocal soloists, chorus, and a three-screen film projection. This immersive visual element incorporates original images, iconography, and operatic subtitles into a unified panorama. While we won’t use traditional sets, the visual display offers a compelling and innovative way to stage opera in concert form, complementing the music much like scenery would in a full production.
This phase of growth also includes a series of live performances beginning in Fall 2025. Leading up to March 2026, we’ll present smaller ensemble events showcasing original tracks, previews of the upcoming premieres, and well-known works from the classical repertoire.
Commenting on the Ensemble’s increasingly ambitious schedule, Ginevra Petrucci, Co-Director of Artistic Planning, said:
“As we gain more experience performing together and explore the new sonorities and rhythms that bridge classical and Eastern folk traditions, the ensemble has become eager to perform more frequently.”
Tylor Thomas, also Co-Director of Artistic Planning, added:
“This next phase reflects the deep development of a recognizable voice—not only that of Charles and his music, but also a unique sound that has become distinctly ours as an ensemble.”
I cannot resist noting another milestone for me, personally, which is coming on May 11, when Ginevra and the Trio Fadolín (who perform a four-movement suite on our album Old World, New World) are appearing together in New York at NYU’s Casa Italiana. Here is a link to the performance announcement for the program, entitled Variations on the Quartet. Variations on the Quartet | Casa Italiana Zerilli—Marimò at NYU As part of that performance, Ginevra and the Trio will be performing my composition, Storgí, which appears on our new album, Evlogía. This marks the first time that my music has been performed in a program where I had no involvement in the planning. The program has a wonderfully whimsical, Mediterranean theme. A great way to celebrate Mother’s Day!
Location: NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, 24 West 12th Street, New York, NY 10011
